Denver - Investments Print E-mail

Denver has made significant investments in its downtown, and it shows. Examples of the city’s enhancement efforts include:

The 16th Street Mall
The centerpiece of downtown Denver is the 16th Street Mall, the 16-block-long pedestrian and transit-way mall that serves as the retail core of the city. The construction of the 16th Street Mall was completed in 1982 after two years of construction. The 16th Street Mall is also the address for residential units, office buildings, hotels and two regional transportation stations. Seating areas along the Mall's tree-lined median and adjacent to cafes and restaurants attract pedestrian activity year-round. More than 60,000 riders board the 16th Street Mall's free shuttles on weekdays, with increasing numbers on weekends and weekday evenings. The 16th Street Mall consistently ranks among the top metro tourist attractions.

Denver Art Museum
With over 60,000 artworks, the Denver Art Museum (http://www.denverartmuseum.org/) has the largest and most comprehensive collection of world art to be found between Chicago and the West Coast. Its American Indian art collection is internationally renowned, and its pre-Columbian and Spanish Colonial art collection is outstanding. Other collections include Asian, European and American painting and sculpture, architecture, design and graphics, modern and contemporary, Western and textile art. The North Building—a 24-sided, two-towered building designed by Gio Ponti of Italy—is covered with more than one million faceted, shimmering gray tiles specially designed by Dow Corning. In October 2006, the Denver Art Museum nearly doubled in size with the opening of the Frederic C. Hamilton Building. Designed by renowned architect Daniel Libeskind, the spectacular expansion soars from the ground like a titanium flower. The Hamilton Building includes collection galleries, special exhibition venues, an auditorium, Museum Shop, and a rooftop sculpture garden with spectacular mountain views.

Skyline Park
Skyline Park is the paragon of public and private cooperation culminating in a beautiful outdoor space attracting business people and residents alike. This three block oasis in the middle of Downtown is home to a variety of seasonal activities and events, and provides a spectacular outdoor setting for outdoor restaurant patios. Free wireless internet access is also available in the park.

Spanning the length of Arapahoe Street from 15th to 18th Streets, Skyline Park's grassy areas welcome you to relax and enjoy the vibrant urban setting in Downtown Denver. Whether you're enjoying lunch at one of the umbrella-shaded tables, people watching, or taking in a noon-time concert, Skyline Park offers something for everyone!
