Fayetteville - Finance Print E-mail

The city of Fayetteville uses a variety of innovative financing strategies to build its creative community. To create the Walton Arts Center, which provides cultural venues for school children, citizens, and visitors, the city used regional sales tax money to fund the three-part joint venture between the city, the University of Arkansas and regional private donations. Also, sales tax money and private donations are being used to fund the construction of the state-of-the-art city library that will meet the needs of the community for the next 20 years. To finance the Fayetteville Alternative Transportation and Trail Plan, the City is utilizing $950,000 of federal grant funds, provided through the Transportation Enhancement Program, which is up for re-authorization this spring. The City also has a Parkland Dedication Ordinance and a Hotel-Motel Tax that helps fund the Parks and Recreation needs of the City. The City used public funds, private grants, and donations to fund the construction of the Walker Park Senior Center and the Fayetteville Boys and Girls Club. There are numerous public-private partnerships that fill a need in the local community. Some examples include the Downtown Dickson Enhancement Project, the Yvonne Richardson Community Center, Ozark Regional Transport and Habitat for Humanity.
