Fayetteville leaders are committed to providing excellent city services and amenities to all residents and visitors. Through a series of public workshops and in association with the Sidewalk and Trails Committee, the City of Fayetteville recently adopted the Fayetteville Alternative Transportation and Trail Plan, which offers recommendations for improving community access to outdoor resources and community destinations by developing a network of off-street, multi-use trails and on-street linkages. This Master Plan addresses the needs of citizens and visitors related to transportation, recreation and economic pursuits through a comprehensive alternative transportation and trail system. The plan details policies, programs, and physical improvements that should be implemented to improve alternative transportation opportunities throughout the community. The Plan recommends the implementation of a 129-mile network of multi-use trails and 163 miles of on-street linkages. The system is extensive and comprehensive, and at the same time provides a realistic program for satisfying the needs of citizens regarding access to outdoor resources and linkages to popular destinations. A new Trails and Greenways Coordinator position was created to implement the trail master plan and to oversee the three-phase construction process.
