To enhance the city’s overall quality of life and aggressively prepare the city for the new millennium, the Fayetteville City Council recently approved a contract with the nationally recognized urban design and revitalization firm Dover, Kohl and Partners to prepare a comprehensive Downtown Master Plan for Fayetteville. This comprehensive plan determined what actions were necessary to achieve Fayetteville’s vision for a vibrant metropolitan area that includes the following strategies:

• An authentic city center
• A specialty shopping destination
• A regional cultural and entertainment district
• A welcoming place for visitors
• A mixed-use neighborhood
• A parking management strategy
• A partnership for the future

Community involvement is an integral part of the Master Plan process. The Dover Kohl team will employ the charrette approach while preparing this community-based plan. Their initial work will include a hands-on design session with members of the community in an on-site design studio as well as various technical meetings with city staff, downtown merchants and other key stakeholders. This approach will result in a community-driven master plan that will guide urban design standards, parking policy, neighborhood preservation and the continuation and enhancement of Fayetteville's character in the local environment.
