Downtown/Sundance Square The collaborative efforts of these parties are the driving force behind the revitalization of this section of the city's urban core. A variety of federal and local funding sources, development incentives, and creative leveraging of capital financing have also assisted in the revitalization of Sundance Square. These include: Urban Development Action Grant (UDAG) - Three million dollars in federal funds were administered through the City of Fort Worth (1979-1980) for the repair of brick streets, sidewalk construction, landscaping, and lighting of nine blocks of Main Street. This action helped leverage $27 million in private investment. Urban Mass Transit Grant - Used to create bus lanes and transfer shelters on Houston and Throckmorton Streets. Tax Abatement - This local property tax abatement program was used for Downtown residential development. Capital Improvement Program - The City used bond funds to expand and renovate the Downtown library and to design and develop landscaped entryways to the CBD. These gateways are focal points that help publicize Fort Worth's special events and highlight the City's heritage. Public Improvement District (PID) - Provides additional landscaping, maintenance, security, parking, promotions, and marketing support for Downtown. Tax Increment Financing District (TIF) - Three TIF Districts have been established for Downtown that will provide substantial income from expanding property tax revenues to support existing Downtown development and to finance new improvements. |
