Kansas City - Green Strategies Print E-mail

Kansas City’s citizens certainly enjoy the area’s impressive array of natural treasures. And they’re dedicated to preserving them. The area’s environmental initiatives include:

Bridging the Gap
In 1991, Bridging the Gap opened Kansas City's first volunteer-staffed recycling centers which have involved over 15,000 local volunteers during the last 14 years and been honored by the National Recycling Congress as one of the nations leading recycling programs. Bridging the Gap also coordinates the activities of Keep Kansas City Beautiful, an affiliate of Keep America Beautiful, and was awarded the KAB National Award for most outstanding program litter prevention program in the country in 2003. Bridging The Gap is the coordinating hub for many diverse environmental projects—from waste prevention and reduction in our regions recreational facilities to environmental education and sustainable development.

Water Resources Planning, Policy, and Practice
This program is designed to promote cooperation among communities across the region in addressing stormwater management and related water quality problems.

Creating Quality Places
An invitation to action, the program's goal is to foster the design of quality places in communities throughout the Kansas City region.

Heartland Sky
Heartland Sky is a public/private community effort to keep clean air in the Kansas City region. The program aims to reduce ground-level ozone during ozone season.
