Kansas City - Strategies and Visions Print E-mail

While Kansas City has renewed its commitment to such tried-and-true businesses and values the stability they bring, it refuses to shy away from the new economy. The city hasn’t let its negative experience with the telecommunications industry hold it back and is approaching the 21st century head on.

The community is poised to be one of the nation’s high-tech service hubs. It’s one of the country’s ten “most wired” cities and ranks second in Internet backbone capacity. Kansas City also has a high concentration of high-tech services including engineering and computer processing. Plus, a number of top tech companies have become key players in the community, including:

Cerner Corp: The corporation is a world leader in the development of clinical software for healthcare providers.

DST Systems: The $1.3 billion company provides information processing and computer software services to mutual funds, insurance providers, banks, and other financial organizations.

GARMIN International Inc.: The company designs, manufactures, and markets global positioning devices for aviation, marine, recreation, and consumer applications around the world.

Honeywell: The company’s second facility in Kansas City is engaged in world-class, precision manufacturing using the latest in microelectronics and nanotechnology for the U.S. Defense Department.
