With more than 52 languages spoken by San José residents, including a sizeable Latino population and the largest Vietnamese population in the United States, San José’s numerous festivals and city-wide events celebrate the city’s rich cultural and ethnic diversity. • The International Mariachi Festival at the Mexican Heritage Plaza draws audiences from down the street and around the world. • The Tet Festival, marking the Vietnamese New Year with a parade and dragon dancers, is one of the largest such festivals on the West Coast. • Historic Japantown hosts many events including a weekly farmers market, festivals and outdoor movies. • The Luther Burbank Jamboree celebrates antiques and local history by inviting people into the City’s antique row area, a neighborhood filled with craftsman bungalows. • San José’s downtown parks are home to many large festivals and events including the San José Jazz Festival, one of the largest free music festivals in the country. • The Tapestry Arts Festival, San José's oldest & largest street festival, attracts some of the nation’s finest artists. • Downtown San José really heats up in the winter with a popular outdoor ice rink and the incredible San José Holiday Parade and Christmas in the Park. • The San José Holiday Parade is one of the largest parades of its kind in California. Considered one of the top 25 Parades in the United States, it features giant helium balloons, more than two dozen marching bands, creative floats, clowns and of course, Santa Claus. Christmas in the Park transforms downtown Plaza de Cesar Chavez into a winter wonderland, showcasing 60 musical and animated exhibits, glittering lights and a 55-foot city Christmas tree. Christmas in the Park is the largest free outdoor holiday exhibit in the western United States, involving more than 350 volunteers and attracting more than 400,000 people to downtown San Jose during the four-week holiday season. |
