If St. Louis City had to be described in only one word, “revitalized” would be it. Downtown St. Louis is experiencing a dramatic renaissance with over $4.27 billion invested in the city’s core (thru 2007) and another $1 billion underway, according to the Downtown St. Louis Partnership.

For the first time in a half-century, residents are flooding back into the city as strong neighborhoods are emerging once again. Runners, residents walking their dogs, window shoppers, street side diners all fill the city’s sidewalks that were once desolate after nightfall. Beautiful historic buildings have been preserved through the revitalization, largely in part to historic tax credits, and are being converted into stylish lofts and condominiums, restaurants, art galleries, shops and more.

Major growth of new residential developments has added over 4,100 residential units in the last 10 years, 3,700 of those units since 2003. In 2007, the 400 condo units purchased were the most ever, surpassing previous highs of 336 in 2006 and 288 in 2005.

Nearly 100 new restaurants, shops, and service businesses quickly followed, giving residents and visitors plenty to do, see, eat, and experience. All within close proximity, the St. Louis Arch, Busch Stadium, the City Museum, Laclede’s Landing with the new Lumiere Place/Pinnacle Casino, and several newly-beautified parks, plazas, and streetscapes are just a few features that are making the heart and soul of the St. Louis region come alive again.
