In St. Louis, you don’t have to look hard for a reason to celebrate. St. Louisans can turn any event into a celebration and we do. Sports rallies are staged; parades are run; festivals are held. Whether it’s your love of sports, the arts, holidays, or multi-cultural events, St. Louis hosts a festival to celebrate them all. 2006 World Series Championship Parade and Rally: After clinching the 2006 World Series championship, the St. Louis Cardinals were honored with a parade and rally. An estimated 500,000 fans lined the streets of downtown St. Louis to cheer the home team and to thank them for an exciting season. Art on the Square is a premier event in the metro-east region that fosters the appreciation of the visual and performing arts to a diverse public by presenting an exhibit and sale of fine art, providing educational and enjoyable workshops for children and promoting the importance of the creative process. Chinese Culture Days features a Grand Parade with 70-foot dancing dragon, martial arts, Chinese calligraphy, painting and authentic regional cuisine at the Missouri Botanical Garden. Special tours around the gardens focus on the symbolism of many plant species and architectural details. Fair St. Louis & Celebrate St. Louis combined in the summer of 2006 to bring more entertainment and fireworks to downtown. Activities include live music and entertainment, thrilling air shows, educational activities, delicious food and magnificent fireworks. Festival of Nations is the region's largest multi-cultural arts celebration. The festival features traditional dance and music, ethnic food, cultural and educational exhibits, folk art demonstrations, and an international market. Two Greek Festivals in St. Louis celebrate Greek heritage with Greek folk dancing, music, food and pastries, and an open market similar to the ones found in Athens. Japanese Festival is a Midwest matsuri (celebration) each Labor Day weekend at the Missouri Botanical Garden. Learn about the fascinating, mysterious world of geisha from a woman who knows it firsthand. Experience the thrilling action of a sumo wrestling bout. Don’t miss the thunderous pounding rhythms of taiko drums, kimono fashion shows, ikebana flower arranging, bon odori summer festival dancing, and more. Saint Louis Art Fair is an annual event on the streets of Clayton. Artists bring their creations for display, food is served by some of St. Louis’ finest eateries, and several music stages are set up. St. Louis Earth Day Festival takes place each year to bring people together for celebration, education, and stewardship of environmental responsibility through Earth Day at Forest Park. St. Louis Jazz Festival is a two-day event that combines top-flight national and local acts in Clayton’s Shaw Park. Schlafly’s Art Outside started in 2004 as an alternative art fair focusing on local artists. Located in Maplewood at the Schlafly Bottleworks, this free event includes a wide range of artists and media as well as musical performances. Strassenfest is St. Louis’ traditional German festival celebrating the tradition of Gemutlichkeit (German hospitality). |
