The 2007 mortgage crisis appears to have spared Tulsa’s housing market. The city’s 2007 average sales price and median sales price were up about 5 percent for the year, and an April Money magazine study of the nation’s 100 largest markets ranked Tulsa second in home appreciation values, with a projected 4.3 percent inflation.

Tulsa’s housing is some of the most affordable and accessible in the country. As national home prices are stagnating, according to a 2007 survey from Coldwell Banker, Tulsa’s metro area ranks eighth in the country as most affordable to buy a home. The survey measures the average price of 2200-square-foot, single-family homes with four bedrooms, two and a half bathrooms and a two-car garage in 317 U.S. markets. In Tulsa, that average price is $153,750. In another Coldwell Banker survey, Tulsa ranks third in the nation for affordable housing in 119 cities and towns hosting a NCAA Division 1-A college football team.
