Tulsa’s Live/Work communities are numerous, and each has its own unique qualities that make it a desirable location to live, work and play.

Tulsa’s Brookside is a thriving, affluent business district offering fine dining, fun nightlife, unique shopping and exceptional services, and surrounded by beautiful neighborhoods and churches.

The Cherry Street District is set near Downtown in the northern Midtown area, defined by a portion of 15th Street dubbed "Cherry Street." Visitors to this neighborhood find great local restaurants, boutique shops, art galleries, and antique shops—all within walking distance of many historic Tulsa homes. Cherry Street is surrounded by four of Tulsa’s historic housing districts: Swan Lake, North Maple Ridge, Gillette and Yorktown neighborhoods. A new addition to the Cherry Street residential community: the St. Louis Cherry Street Lofts.

East of Downtown is Tulsa’s oldest suburban shopping area. The Kendall-Whittier area is artsy and historic, and the recently restored Circle Cinema is located in this area. The Kendall-Whittier shopping area and surrounding neighborhoods are now popular with Tulsa’s rapidly growing Hispanic community. Just east of this area is The University of Tulsa

Critical to the success of Tulsa’s Live/Work communities is the Tulsa Development Authority. The Tulsa Development Authority is dedicated to the revitalization and development of Tulsa. Public/private partnerships between the city and the TDA have contributed greatly to the development of urban/downtown residential projects, and in turn, have attracted people to work and come to live in the city center.

In addition to TDA, entrepreneurs are working with the City Urban Planning department to revitalize Tulsa’s downtown district, bringing housing in the form of lofts and apartments:

Mayo Lofts

First Street Lofts

Tribune Lofts

Central Park Condominiums

Uptown Renaissance Apartments

The Village at Central Park

Neighborhood Revitalization Planning
The City’s mission is to improve Tulsa through planning processes, programs and projects designed to advance physical, economic and social well-being of neighborhoods and small areas of the city. This is accomplished by assisting citizens, businesses, and neighborhood groups in solving community-defined issues by developing community-preferred solutions. This results in comprehensive short- and long-range implementation plans for neighborhood revitalization.

These community-based efforts have resulted in the preparation and adoption of area plans, and other revitalization planning efforts continue. Once these plans are adopted, work continues in each area to implement the vision presented by the area plan. As the City’s Comprehensive Plan Update Process begins, ongoing revitalization planning efforts will continue and the adopted revitalization plans will serve as a basis for implementation elements and, perhaps, as components of the City’s updated Comprehensive Plan.

Block Parties
Every year the City of Tulsa has a citywide Block Party Day. These block parties provide a good way to get together and meet your neighbors. Block parties can vary from elaborate celebrations complete with children's activities to small picnics.
