Tulsa Police Department
The Tulsa Police Department is the law enforcement agency for the City of Tulsa. All surrounding MSA cities have a local law enforcement department to ensure safety and security in their community. Tulsa PD is the largest in the nation to require a degree before applying for the academy. It also requires a six-month term at the academy and four months of field training. All local police departments consider similar guidelines to make certain that surrounding cities have ready personnel bringing justice and protection to their communities.

Safety & Crime Prevention
Crime Commission, Inc. is designed to involve every citizen in crime prevention. There are six core programs that work towards improving the safety and security of the citizens of Tulsa and the surrounding area through crime prevention education, anti-violence programs, and public involvement and include:

 - Alert Neighbors (Neighborhood, Youth, Senior & Corporate Programs)

 - Arrest Arson

 - Citizens Alert Patrol

 - Crime Stoppers (596-COPS) Spanish Line (596-7000)

 - Gangs Advisory Council

 - Safe Escape

The Crime Commission operates with an annual budget of approximately $250,000. It is not a government or United Way agency but relies on the private sector resources and donations for primary funding. The organization operates throughout the Tulsa region and works to educate the community, develop crime prevention, anti-violence and anti-gang programs, involve citizens in crime prevention programs to make them, their homes, neighborhoods and businesses safer, cooperate with appropriate officials to lower the crime rate and to support improvements in the criminal justice system.
