Winston-Salem has been a leader in the use of innovative financing techniques to rebuild its economy. As early as the mid-1980s, Winston-Salem was utilizing public-private partnerships to develop a number of projects. Such cooperation resulted in a new 300-room convention hotel, a 240,000-square-foot Class A office building, and a new corporate headquarters for Wachovia Bank.
